The Crisp County School System is pleased to announce that Crisp County Primary School has been named a 2024-2025 literacy leader!
The Georgia Department of Education recognized 406 schools across the state that demonstrated exceptional achievement or growth in reading during the 2024-2025 school year.
CCPS was awarded the 3rd-grade Gateway Growth Award.
The Gateway Growth Award is earned when the percentage of third-grade, sixth-grade, or high school students reading at or above grade level increases according to the tiered growth criteria.
“Receiving the literacy lead award is truly a reflection of all our teachers’ dedication and collaboration. Their commitment to improving practices based on the science of reading has transformed how we teach and how our students learn. I’m so proud of the collective effort that has made this achievement both possible and sustainable,” CCPS Principal Dr. Leah Slimp said. “I’m excited to see how our ongoing instructional commitment impacts student success in the future. I sincerely thank all our staff for their unwavering commitment to creating a positive and enriching learning environment for every student.”
Georgia’s continued progress in literacy and mathematics reflects sustained, statewide efforts to strengthen foundational learning. In recent years, GaDOE has implemented new, high-quality K-12 mathematics standards and launched comprehensive initiatives to support evidence-based literacy instruction, including professional learning, coaching support, and resources for classrooms. This school year, new English language arts standards — developed by Georgia educators and aligned to the science of reading — also took effect, ensuring students build strong reading, writing, speaking, and language skills from the earliest grades.
Superintendent Dr. Brandon Williams says this acknowledgement speaks to all the hard work that’s being done in schools.
"I am incredibly proud of the students and staff at Crisp County Primary School for being recognized as a literacy leader by the Georgia Department of Education. This honor reflects the dedication, teamwork, and passion our teachers bring to the classroom each day and the hard work our students and parents put forth in developing strong reading skills,” Superintendent Dr. Brandon Williams said. "Literacy is the foundation for all learning, and the growth shown by our third graders demonstrates the powerful impact of high expectations, quality instruction, and a commitment to student success. CCPS is modeling "The Cougar Way" again!”
