The Teen Maze is a life-sized interactive game that students advance through by chance. During the Maze, students do not have a choice about the decisions they make regarding sexual involvement – but rather they draw cards, roll dice, or spin a wheel to learn the “good or bad news.” Students who draw cards that say they’ve avoided sexual involvement are “rewarded” while others learn the potential consequences of sex: loss of freedom, medical problems, pregnancy, adoption, STD’s and possibly death. Since paths are randomly assigned, no two students will have the same experience (much as in real life!). In this game, students are victims of chance and must experience whatever happens to them but, of course, in real life they do have choices to make! This event is designed to heighten awareness and provoke thought regarding some of the important decisions that our students are faced with in today’s world. Students will be encouraged to learn from their peers’ experiences in the Maze and to discuss their own experiences with their parents.
