The Crisp County Board of Education is the governing body of Crisp County Schools. The board's six members are elected to staggered, six-year terms from the county's election districts.
Specific duties of the board include appointing the superintendent, formulating policy, allocating funds for the operation of the school system, adopting courses of study, prescribing the strategic direction for improving schools and the district, providing for the maintenance and expansion of facilities, employing staff members, and approving the budget, financial reports and major expenditures.
The superintendent is a professional educator appointed by the board. The superintendent serves as chief executive officer of the school district and is charged with implementing the board's policies.
The public is invited to attend board meetings. Generally, board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month, and board work sessions are held at 7:00 p.m. on the preceding Thursday. In addition, special called meetings are held as needed. Meetings are conducted at the Administrative Offices in Cordele.
